→ 1980–1997—Born and raised in Plainview, New York.

→ 1998–2006—Age 18-26—Earned a BS, MS, and PhD in Electrical Engineering and MS in Chemical Engineering from Stanford for work in genetic circuits and computational genomics.

→ 2006–2007—Age 26–27—Teaches statistics and bioinformatics at Stanford.

→ 2008—Age 28—Co-founded Counsyl, clinical genomics company.

→ 2013—Age 33—Began angel investing, including investing in Bitcoin at ~$10.

→ 2013—Age 33—Taught Stanford’s Startup Engineering online course with 250,000+ students online, one of the first online courses about Bitcoin.

→ 2013—Age 33—Co-founded the company which eventually became Earn.com.

→ 2013—Age 33—Joined venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz as a General Partner.

→ 2014—Age 34—Co-founded Coin Center, now the leading nonprofit in crypto.

→ 2015–2023—Age 35-42+—Seed investor in hundreds of tech startups and digital assets, including Ethereum, Solana, Avalanche, Replit, Bloom, Superhuman, Opensea, and many more.

→ 2018—Age 38—Earn.com acquired by Coinbase.

→ 2018—Age 38—Counsyl, the clinical genomics company, sold for $375M.

→ 2018—Age 38—Balaji becomes CTO of Coinbase. (There he leads the rewrite of the Coinbase backend to support hundreds of new assets, launches USDC, closes $1B for Coinbase Custody, integrates Coinbase Earn, closes $200M+ in Coinbase Earn airdrops, and builds the crypto engineering team.)

→ 2019—Age 39—Balaji completes his stint at Coinbase.

→ 2020—Age 40—Forecasts the consequences of COVID-19 months early on Twitter.

→ 2022—Age 42—Publishes The Network State, which becomes a WSJ Bestseller.
